Generally the
growth markets that
excite me within technology are in three broad areas. The first is the
explosion of digital media and the technologies required to enable
it. The second is the explosion of life sciences technology and the
technical health care product development to meet the needs of the
aging baby boomers. The third is the market focused on the
explosive changes brought about by emerging field of
nanotechnology. As a buzzword I cautioned you about "nano" but as a
future I say the right companies will prosper beyond belief. I’ve
been peeking at computers again and have a couple “Ahas!” to share
with you.
Now coincidently these are heavily
patented fields. Many companies have recognized the potential to
build business models through licensing and recurring revenues.
Other larger ones need patents just to use as cross licensing
ammunition to avoid being made obsolete. In the last several years
patents have become a market of acquisition also. When a smaller
company has them, but a bigger company needs them to develop the
“show me the money” products, I look hard to bring you the Aha! In
most cases it is already right before the eyes but lost without
research, insight, and a unique view you will only get with
assistance.
