The Digital Media Explosion
The age has come where media content is downloaded, burned, ripped,
shared, begged, borrowed and stolen. If one thing has proved true
it is that there is an insatiable desire for media. Now top ten
songs are heard by more people than ever. Enabling that desire has
seen good growth in the enablers like MP3 player, DVD’s, broadband
connections, CD burners, gaming….you name it. Meanwhile the owners
of the content are seeing less revenue. Piracy is a real problem.
Without question the bandwidth and compute power of the marriage of
these phenomena is a market that has to occur for the digital
revolution to continue profitably. The markets find a way. You’ll
be there for the successful companies that stand to benefit with the
highest returns. These companies will continue what we all know is
still growing technology. Unfortunately for some of the players in
the last run, their turn is up. Many of these companies had a long
their term bull run and many are still great companies; but waiting
for them to return to “growth company” valuations is not the
investment solution.
The Life
Sciences Technology Explosion
New research is fundamentally changing therapies. The investigation
of the human genome is starting to pay practical dividends as well.
Several companies stand to deliver high returns serving the aging
baby boomers by actually treating and potentially curing things for
which cures have been dreamed of for decades. The technology
enablers and investments may not be who you think.
The Nanotechnology Explosion
This is the future
disruptive technology. But nanotechnology is merely a buzzword for
the miniaturization of technology and the diverse markets that stand
to be transformed by materials and small devices. Nanotechnology
development stands to change every technology market there is.
Chemicals, materials, chips, drugs and drug delivery, the
environment, displays, commerce, and telecommunications will all be
impacted. The future stands to be shaped with companies
already fueling the research, supplying the tools, developing viable
products for growing markets, and attracting capital. Instead
of thinking of nanotechnology as some future vision, I realize it is
already profitable for some and very threatening to others.

investments for high returns in these exploding markets.
